Our stay at Songbird Retreat

Over the summer months Zac and I rarely get to have a day (let alone two days in row) to be together. So one night when we both walked in home late, and were missing each other so much we made a conscious decision to spend a weekend together.  Finding that weekend was difficult but when we finally did, we enquired at Songbird Retreat straight away and they were more than happy to accommodate us!

Songbird Cottage sits comfortably within the native bush just above Matheson Bay, on the Matakana Coast. Once a former potters workshop, it has since been transformed into a stylish home from home self-catering accommodation.

It’s like an amazing peaceful haven, an opportunity to truly relax and just be with your loved ones.

When we arrived I was immediately impressed with the immaculate attention to detail, the stylish interiors that are surrounded by landscaped gardens adorned with lavender, olive and fruit trees. And the sumptuous linens on an epic king-sized bed which I was super excited to sink into later that night. Adam, one of the owners of the luxury Songbird Retreat (the other being his wife Katherine) greeted us with a glass of complimentary bubbly. I made a cheese platter with essentials we had gathered earlier from the neighbouring town Matakana, Zac put on ‘Fat Freddies’ and we did not move from that spot until we basically left again on Sunday evening.

We did however move long enough to enjoy some of the other outstanding amenities on offer at Songbird Retreat.
You’re encouraged to have a romantic soak in the outdoor bathroom using the Victoria & Albert bath for two surrounded by deck lights at night. Or shower in the outdoor, alfresco shower. With plenty of hot and cold water on tap, the super-sized rain head very quickly relaxed and massaged any tired limbs we had and it was also good for the soul to do something out of the box by bathing and showering outside.

It was so uplifting for Zac and I to: a) be together and embrace the evenings with a snuggle under the blanket, whilst gazing at the most magnificent night sky and b) also fun to fill the outdoor bath with bubbles and gaze and laugh with each other and then to nap and read a book on the most comfortable couch I’ve ever sat on!

Songbird Cottage is the perfect escape for honeymoons, anniversaries and romantic escapes, but they have plenty of activities, outdoor playhuts and bunks for children also.  It really is the perfect get away location for anyone looking to unwind. They even have a giant egg swing chair to read in that much to Zac’s delight we figured out it fits two people.

Adam & Katherine are very easy to get in touch with and would be more than happy to talk further about Songbird retreat, simply tell them I told you to reach out.
