Make a Big Mac and Fries at home during Covid-19 Lockdown

Hey Team

Well aren’t we all nailing our no takeaway diets!!!

If your husband, yourself or any family member is like mine and missing their favourite burger, I have figured out how to make it at home from simple ingrediants found at your local supermarket.

Note: I couldn’t get the exact ingrediants for some of the items so I just did what I could considering we are in lockdown.

Start by making the sauce as it needs to be chilled….

Big Mac Sauce:

  • 1 Cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbs gherkin relish
  • 2 tsp white vinegar
  • Pinch of white pepper (I used black)
  • 2 tsp mild mustard
  • 1 1/2 tsp onion powder (I used flakes)
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

Combine everything in a bowl and chill until needed.

Big Mac Burger:

  • 2 x beef patties (I store bought)
  • 2 tbs spoons of oil (for cooking the patties)
  • 1 x sesame seed burger bun, sliced into three like this..
  • 1/4 onion, finally chopped
  • 1/4 iceburg lettuce, finely shredded
  • 1 x slice of tasty cheese
  • 1 x pickle, thinly sliced (I used two slices)

Cook the patties and steam the bun while preparing the fresh ingediants and then assemble your Big Mac.

How to assemble the burger:

  • Spread Big Mac sauce on the bottom base
  • Top with chopped onion
  • Next is shredded lettuce
  • Slice of cheese (I used two but I think that was wrong)
  • Beef Patty
  • Slice of pickle
  • Top with middle bun layer
  • Spread more Big Mac sauce
  • Onion
  • Lettuce
  • Pickles
  • Patty
  • Finish with more sauce
  • Top with burger lid.

If your craving McDonald’s chips I have a recipe for that also!

You need to first make a brine to bath them in.

  • Oil (for cooking)
  • Shoestring chips
  • 1/4 cup of ice
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted beef stock
  • 1/4 cup soy milk
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

Mix everything into a bowl (minus the oil) and throw in the shoestring uncooked chips.

I know, it’s very weird but throw them in, turn them once and then remove quickly, place them on a plate in put them in the freezer for 5 minutes.  This will help the brine concoction stick. After the 5 minutes cook the chips the same way you normall cook your chips, either oven, fry, deep fryer.  I did ours on the stove top for 10 minutes while I was steaming my burger bun.

Fact: McDonalds’s cook all their fries at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for ten minutes and ten seconds!

I made the chip container the day before, it was super easy! To make it even easier for you I made front and back templates which you can download and print from here and here, you will then just need to simply colour it in.  I used acrylic paints.

 Front:

I cut the pictures of the back of an original packet I found on the side of the road while on my daily lockdown walk.

Back:

Mark out the crease lines and then glue or paint 10 x yellow stripes.  Here you can see I cut and glued yellow stripes of paper, once they were dried I trimmed the edges.

It was a fun thing to do during lockdown I would highly recommend it.  If you would like to watch the video of how it turned out simply click through to here.

Stay safe, stay home and enjoy this quality time at home with loved ones.

Erin xoxo
